The spooky tale of the haunted student accomodation
on Agard street in Derby
Students of the University of Derby living in accommodation on Agard Street may be unaware that the next time they turn around they could come face-to-face with a ghost. The site has reportedly been haunted by the spirits of Richard Thorley and Eliza Morrow for over a century.
Richard Thorley was executed on 11 April 1862, becoming the last person to be publicly executed in Derby. He had been sentenced to death for the brutal murder of Eliza Morrow on Agard Street on 13 February 1862. A number of strange occurrences began to happen on Agard Street not long after Thorley’s execution. The ghosts of both Thorley and Eliza Morrow were seen by many people on a number of separate occasions. Workers at Longdon’s Fabric Mill on Agard Street also reported hearing unexplainable noises so often that they eventually became used to them. |
